Garland's Dominance Continues

Once again Jon Garland is showing that he if for real this season. He pitched his second straight complete game, four hit shutout on Sunday as the Sox won 8-0. Garland was on all game as he struck out six batters improving his record to 5-0 with a 1.38 ERA. He extended his scoreless innings streak to 23 and is also the first pitcher in the AL to reach five wins. Every time Garland has taken the mound this year you can see that he has all the confidence in the world. He is taking command of the game and has been just about untouchable. Carl Everett and Timo Perez led the offense as they both drove in three runs. A nice series win for the Sox as they took two out of three from the Tigers and continue to improve their record. They are now at 18-7 which is the best record in baseball.

Impressive Stat

The White Sox have held a lead for the 25th straight game to start the season, tying a Major League record set by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1955.

Comments:
Let's hope we win on Tuesday. We'll have some regulars back from injury, and it would be nice to have this season in the record books. Considering that we're facing KC, and more specifically Brian Anderson, that shouldn't be too tough.

But is Garland for real? Tough question. He could be an excellent starter in the mold of Derek Lowe (When he's on) or maybe Mark Mulder (Though I'm not saying he'll be that good). What I mean is, he can be successful by pounding the strike zone, going deep into games, not walking too many and striking out about a guy every 2 innings. That would be his best case scenario strikeout total.

What Garland won't be able to do, I think, is take over games like high K guys do. Those types of strikeout pitchers simply don't let the batter leave the box. It doesn't matter if they face power teams like the Yanks or discipline teams like the Red Sox. They simply command the game. Jon does let hitters put it in play. Doesn't mean he won't be a very good pitcher for us, much better than his previous incarnation. Just some food for thought.

Man. We've led in the first 25 games of the season, and we're 17-8, so we could have potentially been much better.

I certainly didn't expect a start like this, but the scary thing is that Minnesota is still only 2.5 games behind. Hell, we'll have to keep up this sprint if we want to outpace them. How can they be so good?

The Twins are still a very good team. They did lose some key parts to their line-up but their pitching is still solid. Yes, it is very surprising to see that they are only 2.5 back when we are playing so good.

jon's sinker looks phenominal. mixed in with his fast ball.. its quite the combo.

sorry to see rincon go down for steroids... haha

With Hawk being gone for these games, I've missed his calls.

Does anyone know where I can get some soundbites of his catch phrases?

If so, please le me know
