Dominant Freddy

With a three game set in Denver, Colorado, you would expect a slug fest between the Sox and the Rockies. The Rockies came into the game hot winning four in a row but Freddy Garcia absolutely shut them down. Freddy went eight innings, giving up three runs, on two hits, while striking out 10. That's right, Freddy only gave up two hits. How impressive is that? In the Mile High City of Denver, where the ball flies out of that stadium, Garcia gave up only two hits. After giving up the three runs in the first inning, Freddy retired the last 22 batters he faced. It was an absolute pleasure to watch the way he pitched last night.

Another impressive stat is that the Sox offense scored eight of their nine runs with two outs. That is some clutch hitting. Paul Konerko, Jermaine Dye, and A.J. Pierzynski all drove in two runs apiece. It was just a complete game by the entire team last night.

No Respect

During last night's Baseball Tonight on ESPN's Tri-Fecta, the Sox received no respect at all. During the 20 minute show, the Sox were only mentioned at the very end when the show was over. Freddy Garcia completely shut down the Rockies in the most hitter friendly park last night. Giving up only two hits and retiring 22 straight batters should be one of the lead stories. Yet as the show was ending, all the host of the show said was "Freddy Garcia pitches well tonight as the Sox won in Colorado.". Then the show ended. I was ticked off after hearing just one sentence about the best team in baseball. Go ahead and not give respect to the Sox now, but when October comes around don't be jumping on the bandwagon when they have been doing this all year long.

Other Notes

Aaron Rowand went 1 for 5 last night to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

Scott Podsednik stole one base last night which improved his league leading total to 31.

Frank Thomas needs one RBI to reach 1446 in his career which would move him ahead of Joe Carter for 48th all time.

Time To Shut The Mouth

Here is a small article from whitesox.com......

Sticks and stones: Apparently, not everyone in baseball is ready to anoint Guillen as Manager of the Year. Jeff Brantley, a former Major League closer and the analyst on ESPN's broadcast of Monday's game, was especially critical of Guillen for his handling of the bullpen in the ninth inning, while Steve Phillips, the former Mets' general manager, also took Guillen to task during ESPN's "Outside the Lines."

As expected, Guillen wasn't bothered by any of the criticism. In fact, he welcomes the negative feedback.

"As long as they blame it on me, and they're not blaming any of my players, good," Guillen said. "It's easy to be criticized in baseball. That's part of the game.

"I just laughed. I do my job and I do the best I can to win games. That's why they're sitting behind the desk and I'm here managing. But if you're not willing to be criticized, get another job. That's why I'm the manager, to be criticized."
---------------------------

I heard what Jeff Brantley said and every time I hear him speak I just want to punch a hole in the wall! He acts as if he is a genius like he invented the game of baseball. During Monday's game he kept saying in the top of the ninth that this game should be over. That's all he kept saying and over and over telling everyone how bad of a job Ozzie is managing this team. I believe the Sox won that game.

Mr. Brantley, please shut that mouth of yours for me. You are working for ESPN, so there must be a reason why you are in a TV booth and not in the dugout like Ozzie is. If Ozzie is doing such a bad job then how are the Sox in first place? I hate hearing this man's Southern accent all the time! I don't understand how you can criticize a man who is managing a team that has the best record in baseball. I know you are an analyst and you are analyzing the situation, but to continue to rip on Ozzie after the situation is over is just ridiculous. Get over it Brantley. It's seems as if the man is jealous for some reason. That is just how I think he is acting by all of the things he is saying. Boy you sure got me all worked up Brantley!

Who's On First?

While watching Wednesday nights game I noticed that Paul Konerko was given the day off. But then I realized that Timo Perez was starting at 1B. I like what Ozzie is doing with this team. He doesn't care who you are or where you have come from, you better show up everyday ready to play anywhere. Timo was definitely not pretty at 1B but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Many people kept saying why give Konerko the day off Wednesday when the Sox are off on Thursday. But you just have to go along with Ozzie. If the man is going to manage with his gut instinct, of course we are going to applaud when he makes a good decision. The man manages the game with his heart, so how can we criticize him when things go bad if we are applauding him when things go good? I think we have to be behind Ozzie 100% no matter what he does. The man makes no money compared to other managers in baseball but he gives it his all everyday to lead this team to the promise land.

Interesting Article

In today's Daily Herald, White Sox writer Scot Gregor wrote a very interesting article. He brought up the rumor about the Sox trading for Oakland A's 3B Eric Chavez. He mentions that the Sox would be giving up Joe Crede and Brandon McCarthy to get Chavez. If you get a chance please read his article.

I agree with Mr. Gregor in that this trade would vastly improve the Sox and make them favorites to win the World Series. You would be adding a very powerful bat to the lineup and you would also be getting the man who has won the last four Gold Gloves at 3B in the American League. Even though he is having a very poor season so far, I think a change of scenery for Chavez would help him. As for McCarthy, you have to give up something to get something in return. One day McCarthy will be an ace in this league, but maybe the time is right to move him when his stock is high. If you are a regular reader of this site, you all know that I am done waiting for Crede to start playing ball. I am done watching him hit .240 every year.

If this rumor is true, pull the trigger Kenny Williams and bring Eric Chavez to the South Side.
