Sox Pitching Wins First Two, O's Bats Win Second Two

The two best teams in baseball met up this weekend for a four game set in Chicago. But all we got out of it was a split. The Sox pitching controlled the best offense in baseball in the first two games. Jon Garland (7-0, 2.39) and Mark Buehrle (6-1, 3.73) earned the wins as they kept the O's in check. The first two games showed how better pitching is what wins games. But the second two games were a different story. The Sox pitching could not hold down the powerful Baltimore offense. Saturday night, Freddy Garcia gave up seven runs in six innings of work. The Sox bats showed up to score six runs but the O's came through with nine. Then on Sunday, Jose Contreras pitched a solid game but received no run support at all. Contreras made a couple mistakes that were taken deep for homeruns but the Sox offense only came through with two runs. I was looking for three out of four this weekend but it could have been worse going up against the O's powerful offense.

Speed Demon

Scott Podsednik is on an absolute rampage on the base paths. During the Baltimore series he recorded six stolen base, four came on Saturday night. That was the second time this year that he has stolen four bases in one game. He now has a total of 23 stolen bases on the year.

It All Begins On Tuesday

Tuesday, March 17, I will have a big smile on my face! My main man Frank Thomas will be in Ottawa to join the Triple-A Charlotte Knights as he begins his rehab stint in the minors. But there is no time table set for his return as it will be a day-by-day process to see how his ankle holds up after consecutive days in action. But once Frank is ready to play, I think Ozzie should put Big Frank right back into the line-up. We need the big man in the middle of that line-up to get some runs scored and to give guys some protection. I know there are also people out there that think Ozzie should put him in once in a while when he comes back instead of full-time action right away. But the man is a future Hall of Famer and his presence alone will do great things for this team. So play the man right away Ozzie. All he can do is help this team score some needy runs.
