Dominant Freddy

With a three game set in Denver, Colorado, you would expect a slug fest between the Sox and the Rockies. The Rockies came into the game hot winning four in a row but Freddy Garcia absolutely shut them down. Freddy went eight innings, giving up three runs, on two hits, while striking out 10. That's right, Freddy only gave up two hits. How impressive is that? In the Mile High City of Denver, where the ball flies out of that stadium, Garcia gave up only two hits. After giving up the three runs in the first inning, Freddy retired the last 22 batters he faced. It was an absolute pleasure to watch the way he pitched last night.

Another impressive stat is that the Sox offense scored eight of their nine runs with two outs. That is some clutch hitting. Paul Konerko, Jermaine Dye, and A.J. Pierzynski all drove in two runs apiece. It was just a complete game by the entire team last night.

No Respect

During last night's Baseball Tonight on ESPN's Tri-Fecta, the Sox received no respect at all. During the 20 minute show, the Sox were only mentioned at the very end when the show was over. Freddy Garcia completely shut down the Rockies in the most hitter friendly park last night. Giving up only two hits and retiring 22 straight batters should be one of the lead stories. Yet as the show was ending, all the host of the show said was "Freddy Garcia pitches well tonight as the Sox won in Colorado.". Then the show ended. I was ticked off after hearing just one sentence about the best team in baseball. Go ahead and not give respect to the Sox now, but when October comes around don't be jumping on the bandwagon when they have been doing this all year long.

Other Notes

Aaron Rowand went 1 for 5 last night to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

Scott Podsednik stole one base last night which improved his league leading total to 31.

Frank Thomas needs one RBI to reach 1446 in his career which would move him ahead of Joe Carter for 48th all time.
